Commanded by Captain Jake Sutton, the Criminal Investigation Division is responsible for the investigative follow up on all incident reports generated by the Uniform Patrol Division to ensure that every report written receives the proper case closure. The Detectives in the Criminal Investigation Division work diligently to solve crimes reported to the Uniform Division.
Detectives assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division investigate crimes against property which includes such acts as burglary, auto theft, financial transaction fraud, and identity theft. Detectives also investigate crimes against persons such as armed robberies, murder, aggravated assault, rape, and family violence. Investigators are on-call to respond to serious crime incidents 24 hours a day. Lamar County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division currently has three officers assigned to work Narcotics as well as two Officers assigned to our drug interdiction unit.
As Commander of the Investigative Division, Captain Sutton is responsible for Criminal Investigations, Crime Scene Investigation, Evidence collection and storage, The Narcotics Task Force coordination, Interstate Crime Enforcement, Canine Operations, Seizures and Asset Forfeiture, and the Sex Offender Registry.
