FIREARMS SAFETY
The Citizens Firearms Safety course was offered for the first time in 2013. This is a one day basic firearms safety class taught by certified firearms instructors. Instruction includes training on basic gun laws, gun safety, gun malfunctions, cleaning, safe storage and range etiquette. The one day course includes classroom training followed by practical training at the Lamar County Shooting range. The enthusiasm for this program in the community and the instructors alike is enormous.

Course provided free of charge to Lamar County residents and/or business owners.

Participation limited to 12 participants age 18 & older on a first come first serve basis.

Applicants must submit to a criminal history background check. Convicted Felons are not allowed to participate.

Applications can be obtained in person at the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office or Lamar County Courthouse.

Completed applications must be returned to the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office.

Participants must provide their own unloaded handgun along with 30 rounds of ammunition.
